Essence of Hinduism( Part I - Significance of Idols)

Hinduism in the historic times wasn’t a single religion rather religion of religions, there were Vedic, Saiva, Vaishnava, Sakta and many more religious traditions which in combined form got the name Hinduism. Pluralism is the vein of Hindu tradition – “Ekam Sat Viprah Bahuda Vadanti” i.e. Truth is one, people call it by many names, this itself reflects the tolerant nature of this belief system.Hinduism is a synthesis of religion and philosophy, it is not just a set of religious rituals and codes of conduct, but it’s a way of life. Moreover, Hinduism has evolved itself wrt space and time, without loosing its spirit.

Philosophy, mythology, and rituals are three aspects of every religion. In the words of Swami Vivekananda, “Philosophy…presents the whole scope of that religion, setting forth its basic principles, the goal and the means of reaching it. The second part is mythology, which is philosophy made concrete. It consists of legends relating to the lives of men, or of supernatural beings, and so forth.…The third part is the ritual. This is still more concrete and is made up of forms and ceremonies, various physical attitudes, flowers and incense, and many other things that appeal to the senses. These rituals which are secondary help to keep the religion alive.

Recently there has been a lot of debate regarding the rationality behind Hindu rituals and traditions especially Worshipping Idols. Some say how can the supreme power be reflected through this materialistic element and some say its not rational to worship idols. Well, Hinduism never claimed that Idols are Gods rather it says "Every soul is equivalent to God", if one reads Advaita Vedanta he would know that every soul is Brahma(ultimate reality) and thereby equivalent to God.

Idols only serve as a reminder of God . The material image calls up the mental idea of God and helps us meditate. To behold God everywhere & to practice the presence of God is not possible for the ordinary man. The mind wants a ‘prop’ to lean upon as it cant have a conception of absolute in the initial stages. In the beginning meditation is not possible without a symbol hence an Idol is just a medium to concentrate all our energies in one direction to enter the next stage where one realises the power within and all metaphysical misconceptions get diluted.

Considering the scope and range of aspects, ethics, virtues of Hinduism many more articles will follow, this is just the first part of this series.

What is love – Checklist qualified…?

Love is d emotion which makes this world so beautiful….This is the first time Im writing something on love...I see people finding the right guy/gal based on a checklist they make…Everyone has a pre conceptualized image of their partner way before they wud have ever met…Everyone wants the most perfect person to b d love of their life…but as humans are we perfect…everyone knows that no one is perfect but still we live in this bubble…we wait for that perfect person…we try to see a person according to the checklist we have made, as if it’s some examination…

But in reality does love understand such checklist…?

Firstly the whole essence of love gets diminished once u judge someone…coz they both are contradictory to each other I feel…Love is nt about finding xyz qualities… Its not some sort of SWOT(Strength weakness opportunities threats) analysis… if someone says that he has fallen in love after all d calculations then hez bluffing…coz if u take calculated decisions then u don’t love…I have heard of people sacrificing lives in love…will u call it a calculated decision after SWOT analysis…?

If at some point of ur life u feel u missed a particular person who actually qualified ur checklist…don’t u think that according to the same checklist u can also have a better person…as far as this checklist is concerned, the process doesn’t end…

I dnt want to appear filmy but actually we get only one life and the most lucky person is d one who has seen true love, love which doesn’t judge, love which doesn’t look for qualification, love which makes u feel at ease, love which makes u feel that u r special, love which accepts u d way u r,love which forgives u for all d mistakes u have done, love which makes u a better person. Its all about compatibility…accepting the weaknesses of each other and working on strengths.

Love has the power to create beautiful relationships so plz I only want to communicate that if ur partner doesn’t have certain qualities u always wanted in ur mate to have(ur checklist),it doesn’t matter, consider the compatibility u both share and be happy, you would nt like to loose someone very special because of some uncertain future conceptualization of urs which no one knows so believe in ur love and let love create its own path….!

IS IT REALLY DIFFICULT TO BE HAPPY….????????

Is it really difficult to be happy…I keep wondering looking at my life itself…why do we complicate our lives so much that the most basic aspect of our life i.e. happiness is lost somewhere…

Did actually God made humans the way our race has turned out to be…We say animals work on instincts and they lack conscience and we are far superior, but looking at the picture today, can we actually say humans don’t work on instincts..?

I suppose God gave us brains and developed humans so much that we are able to take care of such a beautiful creation of God – This World. But haven’t we made it worse not only for animals but for each other as well. We have developed this tendency to compete with each other and have somewhere lost the essence of harmony…With time we have become more individualistic and maximum we are concerned about our family or friends or community or country but we don’t think of the humanity as a whole… We still live in this divided world and this division has evolved so much that we tend to believe that this distinction is real but actually this is illusion we all are equal…We say we are part of a developed civilization, but are we..?
Is development only restricted to infrastructure or scientific education…? We need to go to the basics and find out the new definition of development and for it firstly we need to develop ourselves… we need to move beyond science and search for the essence of humanity…

Taking a very small example….Even if a man gets all the riches, power, etc but can it make him happy ever…Wats d recipe of being happy…Is there any…? We always say there are different things which make different people happy…but I believe as far as these different things are concerned they are only limited to the happiness which is not sustainable but is highly momentary…Every human if he tries to realize that one mode of happiness which is sustainable is similar for everyone, despite of different natures or different way of living is –“Being with himself”, knowing himself and working on himself… The problem of humans is that we search for happiness outside – it may be people or some materialistic things and we tend to depend so much on them that for us the definition of happiness gets limited to these things…

The only motive of writing this was to make you think that don’t search for happiness outside but inside.... No one can ever be detached from this world because we live in this world which is not an illusion- its real. But we need to learn that in todayz time we hardly spend time with ourselves…Ur CV is not only ur personality…u r far beyond that…u need to know who you really are and once you will know it…you will experience what real happiness is…!
